As the first official American dance, swing was developed in the twenties and thirties of the last century.
Despite being a forbidden dance, secretly performed by both black and white dancers, swing has been preserved and revived at the end of the eighties.
Just like swing music contains musical influences from Africa and Europe, the dance also contains different influences. Closed body position and turns are characteristics of European dances, at the same time, body position and figures, where the partners are separate have their roots in African dance tradition.
Swing dances include: West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, boogie woogie, jive and rock'n'roll.
